ONLINE HISTORICAL ARCHIVE

Preserving our history is a challenge that we must accept for our children and their descendants. It is our responsibility to prevent our heritage and ancestry from being lost and forgotten. Continue reading to find out how you can help.

The Richland Parish Library has added the following “LocalWiki” webpage to enable our community to begin collecting, preserving and sharing our local history. It is free to use and anyone can create an account to login and add information to it. You can do this from your smart phone or tablet, your home computer or laptop, or you can use the Public computers at the library.

Churches, businesses, civil agencies, schools, etc. and especially all individuals are invited to contribute to this effort. The library is freely available for any groups that want to schedule meetings to discuss historical information that should be added to the Online Historical Archive. Pages can be created for any historical subject - pictures can then be uploaded, links to other websites can be added, or information can be typed into the pages.

The Library is providing this archive so that anyone can use it to contribute to and save our local history. But other than providing the Online Historical Archive, the Library is very limited in what it can do to help build the archive - it will have to be done by the community. There will need to be volunteers to collect information, volunteers to enter the information into computers, and volunteers to help manage and organize the overall effort - the Library cannot do this. The library does offer computer classes for the public, and if requested, can provide training for individuals and groups interested in learning how to use the Online Historical Archive.

We are establishing a group mailing list as a first means of communication for interested groups and individuals that want to have information emailed to them about the progress of this effort. Even if you don’t have an email address or ‘don’t do computers’, but you have historical knowledge that you want preserved, please ask someone with an email address to sign up for you.

If you would like to be added to this list now, please fill out the form to the right and click on submit. Otherwise click the following link to continue to the Online Historical Archive.
