Work is of average difficulty requiring close supervision until job is learned, then only periodic supervision. Employees may develop their own sequences and methods within the scope of established policies.
EXAMPLES OF WORK (Illustrative only)
Plans and organizes programs, events, and activities around community interests.
Leads and/or oversees group activities on a weekly and monthly basis. Encourages the community to participate.
Documents community participation in group recreational programs.
Develops weekly and monthly activity schedules to the community for dates of programs.
Makes up a list of program supplies to be ordered.
Maintains the activity storage area in a neat, clean manner. Picks up supplies after each activity and returns furniture to its original position.
Provides instructions and supplies for volunteers to assist with group activities.
Takes pictures of all programs for scrapbook.
Plans special “theme” days or months around holidays, seasons, or recognized days such as Father’s Day or Mother’s Day.
Plans and conducts story hours for Summer Reading Program at headquarters branch
Answer phone
Performs all other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Must be 18 years of age or older. High school diploma or equivalent GED. Some college education preferred. Must have at least one year’s experience in conducting group activities. Experience in working with all age groups preferred.

Able to lead and motivate people; excellent interpersonal skills
Good planning and organizational skills
Able to communicate well, both orally and in writing
Self-starter; able to carry out diverse duties with minimal supervision

Good computer skills (i.e. MS Word, Printshop, etc)

SUMMARY
Under general supervision, responsibility is assigned for a variety of technical duties in various phase of library operations, including the exercising of judgment and discretion in performing library routines with technical advice readily available when needed, and determining duties and methods as necessary to accomplish objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Two years of college or university training, or high school diploma or equivalent plus three years work experience in public service capacity.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
Ability to use resourcefulness, tact, and courtesy in dealing with library patrons and the public
Ability to relate to and communicate effectively with fellow employees
Ability to make decisions recognizing established library practices and policies
Ability to learn circulation software
Some familiarity with computers, software and internet access
Sufficient skill in operating audio-visual and other library equipment
Sufficient skill in typing to net 35 words per minute
